Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande comprises around 365 islands off the Atlantic coast, amere 3 hours road transfer drive from Rio de Janeiro. The small port of Vila do Abraão is the main village, with restaurants, bars and the St.Sebastian Church at its heart, as well as a walking trail which leads to the ruins of theCândido Mendes prison. Vila do Abraão is surrounded by steep, afforested coast, stunning crystalline warm waters, pristine sandy beaches and a few resort accommodation properties. Angra dos Reis is best known for the 190 sq kms of biodiverse Ilha Grande, the largest of its islands. Ilha Grande is perfect for trekking, mountain biking, hiking in the mountains, crossing streams through the Atlantic forest and of course the myriad of 86 stunning beaches. Access is by boat departing from port Angra.
